Product Details

A 672-page, 10x10-inch, seven-pound hardcover coffee table photobook with 1,000 photos of strangers and their advice about making the most of life created by artist and storyteller Imran Nuri. Artist and photographer Imran Nuri lived in his Toyota Camry for 84 days in 2022 while driving across 48 US states to photograph and ask for life advice from 1,000 strangers. He quit his job, gave up his apartment, left his cats with his father and scraped together a patchwork of his savings, a personal loan and support from friends to fund it all. Over the course of this epic road trip, with all its difficulties and dangers, he was challenged in every way. He had never lived in a car before and talking to strangers was far beyond his comfort zone. Spending the night in rest areas, casino parking lots and occasionally on friends’ couches around the country, Imran planned his next destination each morning. His days were spontaneous, which was perfect for the serendipity he was looking for in meeting strangers. The end result is a series of striking black-and-white portraits of people across America, each offering a personal life lesson and glimpse into their lives. Readers experience an inevitable pattern of universal keys to living a life well lived. In a time when divisiveness is more prevalent than ever, this photo series of strangers—soulful, lonely, proud, resilient—celebrates our shared humanity and shows us that, despite our races, genders, locations and backgrounds, we have more in common with those around us than we think.
